The Itch Cycle

Good Morning
I Have Been Thinking

Strategy – Benefit from the “itch cycle.” Tom Hopkins said, “Every product has what I call an itch cycle, a predictable time in which owners of the product yearn to replace the product. The itch cycle centers on the fact that every product has a limited life span. Product life spans vary radically. Computer software may be out of date within a matter of months. Household appliances last for years; furniture may be passed from generation to generation. The length of the cycle is not really important you just need to know how you can use the itch cycle to increase your sales.”

So my question to you this morning is do you know your product’s itch cycle? Do you know how long it is before you customer is looking for the latest and greatest?

If you are someone’s customer talk to their salespeople! This may seem a bit off the wall but I have learned to welcome tele-marketer’s phone calls. That telemarketer either loves or he hates his job. I ask him if he likes what he is doing and if he is earning the kind of money that he would like to be making.

Networking with other salespeople is a wide avenue. Groups where salespeople gather offer a tremendous opportunity to find those with lists you need and to share your unique expertise. This is also true of forums where you can network with others. Give first and eventually they will return the favor. Maybe sooner than you think.

I have been spending a lot of time in the library and the bookstore lately. Did you know if you watch for people looking at the same kinds of books that you frequent it becomes very easy to start of a conversation with them. Some of the best book stores are those that offer a place to sit and read. A simple, “is that book any good?” can be a very good conversation starter. Networking does not have to be difficult. I also found that I can make very nice but informative book marks to give away. They, in many instances are better than a business card.

The Little Things

Good Morning

I Have Been Thinking

Funny how a little thing can make such a big difference. A 2 degrees can mean the difference between feeling good and not feeling good. 1″ might mean you can see the parade. Adding ice to a glass of tea can make it quite refreshing. A smile given to someone who apparently has none of their own can make the day brighter.

Little things in relationships can make or break it. A look can say more than words. I know you all have seen that “mamma” look when she really means business. You knew when you could get away with something and when you couldn’t.

Those tell tale signs are every where you look if you are willing to look for them.

Don’t Ignore the Hardware

Good Morning

I Have Been Thinking

Know what! I haven’t been thinking that is. At least I must not be or more would get done or is it really me? My computer seems to be taking longer to get it’s sequences completed so I go off and do something else until it’s done doing whatever it’s doing. Now how can this be? I run my security programs, I defrag the hard drive and I get rid of programs that I am no longer using. My computer has power and an 80 gig HD. So maybe it isn’t thinking or doesn’t have the capacity to run all of the heavy duty programs I have installed.

Here is a big tip for you. For every six to eight applications you update to a newer version, you will have to do something to the hardware in your computer.

A bigger HD is like getting a bigger closet. You have more room but if you are not careful the closet will get full and disordered thus slowing down your system this is one of the first things to check. Defrag your machine at least once a month or more often if you have removed or installed several applications. Be sure to run your virus scan and your spyware application at least weekly doing a full scan of your system. Always check the easy stuff first, but then don’t ignore the hardware.

What is networking?

I Have Been Thinking

What is meant by “networking”? Well, if you just look at the word itself it would mean working a network. Then when you look at the words Network Marketing, it would then mean Marketing within that network. A fully functioning network offers many benefits to it’s members like

And Officially the first day of fall! I think I say this every year, but fall is certainly my favorite time of year. It is beautiful with all the color. It is the beginning of the busiest times of the year. It is the time to gather in the harvest of one’s production over the growing season.

Farmers produce their crops in the Spring and Summer months, this is the growing season. It is a time of waiting, tilling, watching and growing.

Fall is the time of the gathering. It is the time of learning. It is the the time of reaping all that was planted. Did you do a good job of planting and preparing for the fall? I do hope so because this can be a very exciting time of year. It all depends on whether you had the foresight to do the work in the past that produces the crops and the harvest in the future.

Tom Hopkins is one of my favorite authors when it comes to the art and science of salesmanship. Tom talks about the sales triangle. The base or bottom of the triangle is attitude the right side is enthuasiasm and the third is goals. That combination is a common denominator for life, not just sales. Our attitudes, enthusiasm for what we do and goals for achievement in any area are what keeps our boats afloat. “Without a positive attitude or enthuasiasm for what we are doing we will spend most of our time bailing ourselves out of one leaky mess after another”. Just what is Tom saying here?

If you start with the bottom of the triangle and attach any word to it, you can get the idea. Your attitude toward “today’s project” does it build your enthuasiasm to get it done to the very. best of your ability? Then going to the third side of the triangle, Is it something that must be done to achieve one or more of your goals? Change the word to product and do the same thing.
