Good Morning!
I Have Been Thinking

Anyway, I always thought critical thinking skills were the fundamental, and people skills grew out of those. However, I have found over the years that fully supported coaching and a people skills service along with coaching needs analysis, coaching audit nd support, and the design and development of supportive people skills training cannot be underestimated. Many people get into a direct sales kind of business then fail horribly because they just don’t know what to say or how to say it. Even when given a script to follow, they flub because they just don’t know how it is delivered.

If you think that at the core of every labor dispute is a lack of people skills. Whether it is government services, retail businesses, schools, churches or social clubs, all enterprises rely on good people skills.

Applied consistently, real people skills will help you and your business improve relationships and performance. Without strong people skills, it is better that we have less science and technology because it is unwise to give knowledge to fools.

Learn just the five approaches I have covered in the daily tips to help you improve your people skills and use them to push your business forward.

Self Defense

During a practical exercise at a military police base, the instructor was giving the class instruction in unarmed self- defense.

After he presented a number of different situations in which they might find themselves, he asked a student, “What steps would you take if someone were coming at you with a large, sharp knife?”

The student replied, “BIG ones.”

In order to achieve any degree of success you must communicate effectively, build relationships, establish rapport ,influence and lead people, make friends, build trust, and demonstrate other people skills.

You can acquire the knowledge and mental skills, the people skills and the ability to handle pressure. The boom in executive coaching attests to the need for cultivating leaders with strong people skills.

Business runs on people skills, not gadgets. Face-to-face people skills drives business. Wireless and mobile technology may have revolutionised the workplace, but it is still old-fashioned face-to-face people skills that get the best results. Use your people skills to step up to areas of leadership.

Detail, organization and people skills will all be needed to attain the position of leadership in any organization. If yo! u are working to build a business of your own that will involve facilitating a team of associates or hiring employees

People have a choice with whom to do business with regardless of price. More often than not people will choose But first recognize that your people skills are more nuanced than any other skill you possess. The factors that determine who gets which job are complicated in any industry and involve a wide range of factors. If you struggle with people skills, your timeline will lengthen or you may never reach your goals at all.

Watch the wait staff of you favorite restaurant. Here you have a perfect example of waiting, order taking, delivery of a product (food and drinks.) Who makes the biggest tips? You can learn a lot from wait staff about good PR. Watch carefully. Do they make good eye contact? Do they know their product? Do they recommend an entree and make it sound incredible? Are they johnny on the spot with water or coffee? Do they antic! ipate your needs or do they wait for you to ask for what you w! ant? Oh and what about the presentation? Is it slopped on the plate or is it carefully presented with each food item positioned to show off it’s unique character?

The only thing prohibiting people from having competent people skills like those you just imagined as the very best in wait staff is the first step of jumping right in and doing it.

Murder Trial

A defendant was on trial for murder. There was strong evidence indicating guilt, but there was no corpse. In the defense’s closing statement the lawyer, knowing that his client would probably be convicted, resorted to a trick.

“Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, I have a surprise for you all,” the lawyer said as he looked at his watch.

“Within one minute, the person presumed dead in this case will walk into this courtroom.”

He looked toward the court room door.

The jurors, somewhat stunned, all looked on eagerly.

A minute passed.

Nothing happened.

Finally the lawyer said, “Actually, I made up the previous statement. But you all looked on with anticipation. I therefore put to you that you have a reasonable doubt in this case as to whether anyone was killed and insist that you return a verdict of not guilty.”

The jury, clearly ! confused, retired to deliberate. A few minutes later, the jury returned and pronounced a verdict of guilty.

“But how?” inquired the lawyer. “You must have had some doubt; I saw all of you stare at the door.”

The jury foreman replied: “Oh, we did look, but your client didn’t.”

Good Morning!
I Have Been Thinking

What a week this has been.

I subscribe to quite a few different email lists. I receive newsletters, links to ezine sites, special sales bulletins, articles on self improvement, and even regular updates on the progress of my favorite science fiction pictures. I’m a big fan of information, and thanks to electronic mail, I can receive loads of it on a daily basis.

It’s great to open my inbox and find an insightful article that
helps me put a current dilemma into balanced perspective. It’s also pretty nice to find that software I’ve had my eye on being sold at half price to members of the company’s mailing list.

On the other hand, I’m less than thrilled when I find a message about viagra. I personally don’t like to see all the spam. Talk about a big time waster. I use a great spam filter called xterminator which gets rid of 90% of the junk mail so I don’t even have to look at it. I have even learned to set an egg timer so that I don’t spend any more than 3 minutes on any one item.

I have learned to file the articles and newsletters I enjoy reading by keyword. It takes just a few seconds.

The help emails may take a little more time. The help emails have been a wealth of to me, every time I can answer a question it makes me stretch so I don’t forget. Everyone has to start somewhere in this learning process and I never want to forget how difficult it sometimes is to learn. The pro makes everything look easy, but even the pro had to learn sometime.

Have you ever read all of the terms of service on a website? Or the privacy policy? Or the disclaimer?

I don’t think there is 1 in 100 that read it if at all. Yet the TOS and privacy policy are mandatory on a Website especially if you are collecting personal information from people.

A privacy policy is included to both your protection as a site owner and your protection as a visitor to that site, but please do read to make sure that defaults are not set to “yes” I am willing to get information from third parties. Some sites do sell their lists especially when you give them a permission for third parties to send you their ads.

The Terms of Service – tell you how to use a Website. The TOS are written much like the license in a PLR. This sometimes includes the copyrights for the graphics and the web content.

If a Website also offers affiliate commissions the disclaimer becomes a very key document. No one can promise that you will earn $x.xx by selling their products. No one can say that you will get rich. They have to say there is the opportunity to or a chance to or whatever wording is used.

If you are at all concerned about the legalities of these check out the document samples at the small business administration on the web.

Ice Breakers

A blonde wanted to go ice fishing. She’d seen many books on the subject, and finally getting all the necessary tools together, she made for the ice. After positioning her comfy footstool, she started to make a circular cut in the ice. Suddenly, from the sky, a voice boomed, “THERE ARE NO FISH UNDER THE ICE.”

Startled, the blonde moved further down the ice, Poured a thermos of cappuccino, and began to cut yet another hole.

Again from the heavens the voice bellowed,
“THERE ARE NO FISH UNDER THE ICE.”

The blonde, now worried, moved away, clear down to the opposite end of the ice. She set up her stool once more and tried again to cut hole.

The voice came once more, “THERE ARE NO FISH UNDER THE ICE.”

She stopped, looked skyward, and said,” IS THAT YOU LORD? ”

The voice replied,”NO, THIS IS THE MANAGER OF THE HOCKEY RINK.”

Tips and Techniques

All it takes is one bad apple … It is so true on the Internet as it is in life. Why in the world do we have to have Internet security? Why do we have to post documents such as a privacy policy, a disclaimer or a TOS? It is because of those bad apples. In business, in life one must protect himself. One spam complaint and you could lose your entire business. Take heed and be aware of the pitfalls.

Read that quote again. Ain’t it da truth!

There can some time be such a thin line between love and hate. You love your business, but you certainly do hate a lot of what seems to be the mundane. So often the routine work, the daily to-do list can feel like it is taking you no where fast, but truth is, IF those things you do every day are the things that are taking you closer to completing a project then you couldn’t be doing anything more important.

I know you have heard that time is money. It certainly is especially when you are doing those things that produce an income.

I don’t have to tell you how important managing time can be. One way that has worked for me is to list a daily top ten. Keep a list of you top ten and get it done every day before anything else. Time those actions so they take no more that 25% of the total time you have to work you business. Included will be handling email, writing articles, posting your articles, visiting your favorite blogs, forums and groups to keep up with your networking.

Mundane, dull – oh no! Fun things that make the Internet work day effective.

When my husband and I arrived at an automobile dealership to pick up our car, we were told the keys had been locked in it.

We went to the service department and found a mechanic working feverishly to unlock the drivers side door. As I watched from the passenger side,I instinctively tried the door handle and discovered that it was unlocked.

“Hey,” I announced to the technician, “its open!” His reply, “I know. I already got that side.”

This was at the Ford dealership in Canton, Mississippi

Give it to a committee and nothing gets done.

Work your project with a team and together everyone accomplishes more. So I had someone ask me, what is the difference. Believe me, there is a big difference.

In a committee, at least any that I have ever had to evaluate for their effectiveness, it became quite apparent that 20% of the people do 80% of the work.

In a team atmosphere, the project is divided into modules. Each member of the team is assigned a module to complete then they are given the time they need to complete their module.

In the labs soon to be offered in the Internet Niche Lab, our teams will be creating new info products on a monthly or weekly basis. They will be taught to use the tools in webinars, then when their experience is such that they can participate in a lab they will be invited to participate.

There will never be more than ten members in a lab with a lab facilitator making number eleven. They work together to do the market research, to decide on the project, then each is given an exact module to get done. Pretty cool to see the completed results. It’s more like watching an exciting football or basketball game.

Many people have expressed that coming up with their own unique product alone is a scary thing to do and yes the first time it can be. There are a lot of pieces and parts to put together. The isolation and loneliness in getting the product completed can lead to being easily distracted by anything and everything that comes along. I am sure you know what I mean.

The process is an easy one when the team works together. The captain or facilitator oversees what the team does, while each team member plays his role.

My experience was not in football or basketball but in the symphony. When every member plays his part well the resulting music is a joy to listen to. It takes practice for that group to play well together. Our Niche labs become our symphony.

Do you have the skill to work with a group? If you are going to be or are planning to be a leader then working with a team is a skill you had better get very good at.

The lab is one place where you can hone in this skill and practice it until it becomes second nature.
